December 28 Update from Pastor John

One of our volunteers told me this story: “I had the privilege to “shop” with Tasha at Mission Joplin three weeks after the tornado. She had just gotten out of the hospital and was in a wheelchair. She needed household items and food. She and her husband had just pulled into the parking lot at St. John’s Hospital in Joplin when the tornado hit. The hospital was destroyed. The tornado picked up her car and flung it across the parking lot. Her husband got out of the car and pulled her out the back window and then he was killed trying to help an elderly couple get to safety. We prayed with Tasha and she was so appreciative and humble.  Such a sweet young lady.”

Many people like Tasha have been working their way through their first holiday season without loved ones. I’ve been praying that God will ease the way for them. One of our goals at Mission Joplin is to encourage people who are hurting. Come over tomorrow (Thursday) if you want to help us help them. We also need canned meat, soup, chili, tuna, ketchup, mustard, flour, sugar, mac and cheese, canned fruit, crackers, cookies, pasta, boxed dinners, bath towels, bleach, queen sheets (new or used) and dressers. We love God, we love our city, and we love you!
