Day Two in Haiti

Day two in Haiti went well. Mark and I left Miribalais early in the morning and headed to Port-au-Prince. We met with a couple of different pastors to investigate how Forest Park could help them and their ministries. At one of the churches we were greeted by 75 singing kids. It was very fun to hear. We also saw a lot of destruction from the earthquake. Most people are living in the streets, because they lost everything or because they are too afraid to go back into buildings. It is very sad to see the city like it is.

The doctors saw about 150 patients. When they finished seeing patients they headed to another hospital to check out their needs. After that, they headed to Port-au-Prince. At about 8:00 pm a small boy was brought into the hospital who had been hit by a car. He sustained a pretty bad concussion and needed to be cleaned up and stitched up. He will be fine.

On a sad note, a small baby came to the hospital today with pretty severe breathing problems. Ian believes she had pneumonia. Our docs sent her to another hospital and they in turn sent her to a third hospital. Shortly after they arrived, the baby died. Death is a very real part of life here in Haiti.

Tonight at 9:00 pm I went out to the car to get my camera. I opened the door and the “fixed” car alarm went off again. You guessed it, it wouldn’t shut off. So we disconnected the battery cable. Read more tomorrow about our ongoing battle with the car alarm.
